MacKenna and Kollin's paths unexpectedly intertwined over winter break of 2021 due to a serendipitous typing error. While back home in Cleveland from Ohio State University where she was completing her undergraduate degree in Interior Design, MacKenna heard about a gym called Old School Iron Gym from some friends. Curious to check it out, she searched for it on Instagram, mistakenly typing "Old School Gym" without "iron" and clicked on the first profile that appeared. After browsing through numerous posts and videos, she realized that the gym was actually in Columbus, focusing on strength training for wrestlers.

As she scrolled through posts and videos, a familiar face kept popping up - Kollin. An Ohio State University alum who was living in Columbus training for the Olympic trials. While she knew absolutely nothing about wrestling, she recognized him from unofficially crossing paths many times due to an overlap of mutual friends. Without giving it much thought, she followed him never anticipating the two would connect further than social media. Wouldn't you know it, less than a day later, Kollin’s name popped up on her phone with a charming yet effective message, kickstarting their love-filled, adventure-packed, and unforgettable journey together.

Together the couple has built their relationship around the foundation of friendship and faith, forever grateful that God answered their prayers by bringing not only the two together, but their families. They both feel beyond blessed to have been welcomed in by two incredible families who have been nothing but supportive and loving throughout their relationship.

Now living in their own place in Columbus with their Weimaraner Chief, they spend their time hosting back yard cookouts with friends, exploring new parts of the city and eagerly awaiting the day they tie the knot in 2025!

After graduation, MacKenna moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to work for an architecture firm while Kollin stayed in Columbus for wrestling. While long distance was not ideal, they made the most of it by planning fun and unique dates during visits.

Preoccupied with starting her new career, MacKenna left Kollin to plan the events of the weekend when he came to visit her in September. He suggested a weekend visit to Ashville, North Carolina to go hiking and visit the Biltmore Mansion.

Despite all of the obvious signs (not touching his food at breakfast, uncharacteristically quiet and checking the time on his phone every 3 minutes) Kollin managed to completely surprise MacKenna when he got down on one knee outside the Biltmore Mansion on September 23, 2023.
